Richmond RCMP is asking witnesses to come forward after a vehicle struck a 12-year-old cyclist as he was crossing the street at a busy intersection on Sunday.

The incident occurred in a crosswalk at the intersection of Westminster Highway and Cooney Road around 12:30 p.m. The boy had apparently just entered the crosswalk at the southeast corner of the intersection when he was sideswiped by a white Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) which was making a right turn at the intersection.

The suspect vehicle knocked the boy off his bicycle, and he was later transported to hospital for medical attention. Police are not releasing details of his injuries. However, he was wearing a helmet at the time. His guardian has been notified.
